PHITEX 2018: Bringing culture and environmental responsibility to the forefront of tourism

The Philippine Travel Exchange (PHITEX) 2018, the biggest government organized travel trade event in the country, is slated to take place from August 28 – August 30, 2018 at the Marriott Hotel Grand Ballroom in the city of Manila.

Spearheaded by the Tourism Promotions Board (TPB), the promotions and marketing arm of the Department of Tourism (DOT), PHITEX will gather under one roof international delegates to participate in table-top business appointments with accredited Philippine tourism suppliers.

This year’s theme, “Tourism is our Business; Guarding Our Environment, Reliving Our Culture,” will highlight the importance of conserving our natural resources. As traveling significantly impacts our world, it is crucial to curb its negative effects to ensure long-term economic growth.

Bringing culture to the forefront of exploration is also paramount to the country’s success. Through it, we gain a complete understanding of the nation’s identity that is essential to the betterment of our relations, especially with the world.

To further discuss the theme are former Department of Environment and Natural Resources Secretary, Ms. Gina Lopez, and Cultural Center of the Philippines President, Mr. Arsenio “Nick” J. Lizaso. Both will conduct a seminar on culture and tourism and sustainable tourism respectively on August 30 from 2:00pm to 5:00pm at the Ceremonial Hall of the Marriott Hotel Manila.

Advocating responsible tourism, promoting cultural exchange and fostering sustainable practices to preserve the country’s attractions will all serve as points for discussion to encourage participation from all sectors to spur economic growth.

This year’s event marks PHITEX’s 17th year with the hope that it will bring more tourists to the Philippines and position the country as a major global tourism destination.
