President Duterte conveys message of hope during Palace Christmas tree lighting

MALACAÑANG — President Rodrigo Roa Duterte on Monday, December 3, led the Christmas Tree Lighting at the Kalayaan Grounds, spreading the message of hope to highlight the spirit of the Yuletide season.

“I am delighted to be in the company of friends and fellow government workers in the Office of the President as we herald today our joyous observance of Christmas,” President Duterte remarked during the event attended by Palace personnel and officials.

“During this time of the year, few more sights evoke more feelings of cheer and goodwill than the bright lights of our Christmas tree. Gathering around this iconic symbol that gives us a chance to reflect on the lessons of the past year, and makes us hopeful for the New Year ahead,” he added.

“As you look forward to spend time with your loved ones during the holidays, may you be filled with warmth, happiness, and peace in your hearts,” he continued.

The President further implied to the government servants his hopes that the merriment of the holiday season will reignite their desire to render genuine and sincere public service, especially to those in need.

“I call on you, my fellow government workers, to remain supportive of each other as we work towards achieving our hopes and dreams for our beloved nation. I wish all of you a very happy Christmas.

The 40-feet Christmas tree situated in front of the Kalayaan Building, is made out of recycled materials. It is composed of 1,280 Christmas lanterns with a red motif.

During the lighting ceremony, the President was joined by Presidential daughter Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio and Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea.
